The heart of an offline supply: the PWM controller
Wall-plug offline (AC/DC) supplies — chargers, adapters, power supplies — mostly use a flyback architecture whose heart is the PWM controller: it modulates the switch duty cycle to control energy transfer, regulate the output, and provide protection.
When choosing a PWM controller, common considerations include control mode (current-mode is common), standby power, protections (OVP/OCP/OTP), and external component count.
PWM controllers and USB-PD fast charge
On-Bright's OB2263 is a current-mode PWM controller for general offline flyback supplies; the OB2632Q is a quasi-resonant (QR) USB-PD fast-charge controller for applications such as phone/laptop fast charging that need a protocol and high efficiency.
A general 5V charger or small supply can use the OB2263; to build USB Power Delivery fast charging, choose a controller that integrates the fast-charge protocol like the OB2632Q.
LED drivers
LEDs need a stable current rather than voltage, so an LED driver IC is about constant-current control and dimming. On-Bright's OB3350 is an LED backlight/driver IC, commonly used in display backlights and general LED-lighting drive stages.
When choosing an LED driver, watch the output-current range, dimming method (PWM/analog), efficiency, and protections.
